There has been a number of racing highlights during John's career. Following is a selection of John's most memorable achievements.
General
2008
Grand National Hurdle
Derringer recorded another Major victory snaring the Grand National Hurdle in 2008,just showing how versatile the 10yo is and raising his earnings to over $500k making all involved very proud to see him achieve what he has over the years.
May 2006
Andrew Ramsden Stakes
Derringer turned the tables on Desert Master who beat him the previous start by 10 lengths by beating him in the Andrew Ramsden Stakes which was a slogging finish all the way up the Flemington straight at the end of a tough 3200m.
2006
Fanciful Bella
Fanciful Bella ran a flashing 3rd in the Armanasco Stakes G2 after winning her maiden at wangaratta,she then went on and ran 2nd in the Auraria Star G3 at Cheltanham before running 3rd in the Schweppes Oaks G1 in S.A ,injury forced her to stud and was covered by stallions Artie Schiiller-Hard Spun & Bernardini.
2002
It's Who Deanie
It's Who Deanie was purchased by John for $28k at the 2001 Magic Millions Adelaid Sales.
She impressively won the Jayco Caravans Sprint at her first start,coming from near last,before travelling to Adelaide where she endured a luckless run,when favorite in the $400,000 Magic Millions Adelaide Two -Year -Old Calssic.
was purchased by Yallambe Stud currently in the breeding barn.
2000
Ebony Night
Ebony Night was purchased by John for $67,500 at the 2000 William Ingliis and Sons Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale and won the Listed VATC Rancher Stakes at his first start.
He followed that victory with a 3rd in the Listed VATC Veuve Cliquot before lining-up in the 2001 Group 1 VATC Blue Diamond Stakes, where he ran a luckless 7th. He finished his two-year-old campaign by running 4th in the $460,000 Inglis Premier Classic.
In the spring of 2001 Ebony Night demonstrated that he was among the leading three-year-olds of the season, producing an extraordinary performance to finish 6th, less than three lengths from champion galloper Lonhro in the Group 1 VATC Caulfield Guineas.
In the autumn he returned to finish a 2nd behind Royal Code in the Group 2 Alister Clarke Stakes at Moonee Valley, a luckless run in the Group 1 Doncaster Handicap at Randwick.
2000
Road To Success
In 2000, Road To Success won the Group 1 VATC Blue Diamond Stakes at this third start, having won the Listed VATC Veuve Cliquot Stakes, also at Caulfied, the previous week.
A bargain buy at just $18,000, Road To Success was not originally entered for the Blue Diamond, but John backed his judgement, convincing the horses' owners to part with the $50,000 late entry fee, as he was confident the horse could win the race.
2000
Veuve Cliquot
Road To Success won the Veuve Cliquot giving us the confidence to run in the Blue DIamond Stakes.
1999
Dashing Granada
John Bought Dashing Granada for $100,000 at the 1999 William Inglis and Son Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale.
She won her first two starts as a two-year-old, including the Listed VRC Waltzing Lily Stakes, to give John his first ever stakes-winner. She then ran an unlucky 5th in the Group 1 Blue Diamond behind Road To Success.
At three, Dashing Granada was among the leading fillies of her age.
She finished a close 4th in both the Group 1 VATC Thousand Guineas and Group 1 VRC Oaks. She also ran 3rd in the Group 2 VRC Edward Manifold Stakes and an unlucky 5th in the Group 2 Wakeful Stakes. She was subsequently purchased by Arrowfield Stud and is now at stud.
