Basil Brush broke his Maiden in the Bet 365 3yo 1200m at Bairnsdale in good style,with Ben Allen on board he was instructed to begin quick, hold out any challengers from the outside gates and then steady the ship trying to get some early cheap sectionals once he found his spot.

Things played out well from the jump with short price Favorite All Stars who was heavily supported to win the race was trapped 3 deep without cover and on approaching the turn Basil was asked to extend quickly hoping to catch the rest of the field off guard,in doing so he established a nice break early  before the challenges closed in with 150m to go but Basil rallied and found another gear to kick and win by a neck.

He will take on the 3yo Bm64 1300m at Cranbourne next Sunday October 14th on Cup Day if he pulls up well knowing it's just a seven day back up.
