Jul 13, 2017

Staying mare Don't Be Shy bounced back to form in a big way with a narrow, upset win in the Craigs Royal Hotel 64 Highweight (2200m) at Ballarat.Under the guidance of Lee Horner, the mare settled in fourth place off a genuine speed set by early tearaway leader Perculatus. With the field coming back to the leader approaching the home turn, Lee made his move on the big grey and she hit the front soon after straightening.

The five-year-old then settled in for the fight all the way down the straight, getting the better of Clemmensen at the hundred metres mark and then holding off the fast finishing Vysotsky to win by a head,Relishing the heavy conditions, Don't Be Shy was a blow out for punters with her official starting price of $81.

The mare's three runs back from a spell had been far from flattering but she had been sharpened up with two recent hurdle trials at Cranbourne. She'll have one more run on the flat before looking to make her jumping debut in the coming weeks.
