MARE WINS WANGARATTA MARATHON
Sep 28, 2016
Tough mare Don't Be Shy has notched her second career win in the 2800m XXX
Gold BM58 Handicap at Wangaratta.
Backing-up after finishing third at Sale six days earlier, the five-year-old settled second over the marathon trip and kept the leader
Celestial Sky in her sights until just before the home turn, when the pressure come from Golden Gee circling the field from well back to challenge the leaders, Dean took a cheeky peek over the shoulder knowing that the mare had plenty to give and decided to sit patiently before asking her for a final effort, when Dean pressed the button the mare responded by hitting the front and with urging keep her going to out-slog well fancied Golden Gee by neck & Favorite Vsotsky 3.2l away 3rd.
Don't Be Shy was having her 10th run of her campaign which started back in May, Since then she's broken her maiden at Warracknabeal and also earned a cheque in four other runs.
Throw in a Hurdle trial at Warrnambool where she was more than competitive running 3rd behind a couple of proven seasoned Hurdle gallopers & it just shows how tough and durable she is.
With one more potential start this preparation looming at Cranbourne Friday 14th in 64 - 2530m she can then have a break before being aimed for the 2017 Jumping season where we think she will be more than competitive!
