Landing On Royal Island.

Dec 31, 2012

Promising three-year-old Royal Island made amends for his unlucky debut
performance at Bairnsdale with a strong win in the Sungold Milk Maiden
(1200m) at Warrnambool on Sunday 30th.

Ridden patiently by exciting Riverina apprentice John Kissick, Royal Island
came with a strong run to beat equal favourite Sava Nugget by a long neck.
Royal Island had been freshened since running second at Bairnsdale on 27th November, a race in which he was never closer than three deep for the
entire trip.

The son of Dubawi's win continued the terrific recent run of John's former
good racemare now broodmare Jessie Jane. Jessie Jane is also the dam of
Invincible Jess who has won two in a row for the stable since returning
from a spell.

In what was a good day at Warrnambool, consistent mare To Be Honest and
frustrating But honest maiden Chasing Drama both finished third in their respective races.

Chasing Drama was again running on at the end of the 0 - 58 Handicap
over 1700m the step up to 2000m will be appreciated, while To Be Honest was the victim of a muddling run race but fought on well to be photo-finished out of second behind Miss Godden in the 0 - 62 event over 2016m,
